BEFORE YOU LIST
Barcode basics for Amazon.
A barcode purchase does not automatically create an Amazon listing or guarantee acceptance. Check the rules for your marketplace, product category and fulfilment method first.
Important for Amazon AustraliaAmazon Australia says it checks UPC and EAN authenticity against GS1. Codes that do not match GS1 may be treated as invalid and could affect a listing or selling privileges. Amazon directs sellers to obtain product identifiers directly from GS1. Confirm that your chosen code source is acceptable before buying or listing.
01 / PRODUCT IDUPC and EAN identify the product.
Most new Amazon listings need a product identifier such as a UPC, EAN or ISBN, though the exact requirement depends on category and country. If the same product page already exists, sellers generally match that catalogue page instead of creating another one.
02 / FBA LABELAn FNSKU serves a different purpose.
A UPC or EAN is a product identifier used in the catalogue. An Amazon barcode, commonly an FNSKU, identifies inventory for fulfilment. Depending on the product and seller eligibility, FBA may require an Amazon barcode even when the product has a manufacturer barcode.
03 / VARIATIONSDistinct sellable versions need planning.
Different sizes, colours, flavours or pack quantities may require separate product identifiers when they are distinct catalogue items. Check Amazon’s variation and category rules before ordering codes for a product range.
04 / EXEMPTIONSSome products may qualify for a GTIN exemption.
Eligible products without a GTIN may be listed after an exemption is approved in Seller Central. Eligibility depends on product type, brand and marketplace. An exemption is not automatic and is not a substitute for an existing valid product identifier.
Amazon requirements can change and vary by marketplace. Check the current Seller Central guidance for your account before purchasing.
WHY DOLLAR BARCODE?
You bring the big idea.
We keep the cost small.
Starting something comes with enough expenses. Barcodes shouldn’t be a complicated one. Our approach is simple: buy in bulk, keep the price low, and give every business the same $1 price.
